Niyaf on Facebook →
I would like to get our patients and their families to understand that things should and can get better. I would like to get the Thalassaemia Society and parents of Thalassaemics to open discussion with NTC and other concerned authorities and work on improving outcome rather than just reaching a larger number. We can’t do this without their commitment and support.

Humour
I was caring for a woman from Kentucky and asked, “So how was your breakfast this morning?” “It was very good, except for the Kentucky Jelly. HiB vaccine
Razana: My baby is 1year 2months. He was not given the HIB vaccine.... When can I give him [the vaccine]. Will only 1 does [be] sufficient for him. If we give the HIB vaccine for the first time after 1 year [age],will there be enough immunity for HIb like other children who [were] immunized [at] the correct time
Dr Niyaf: Hi Razana, You are right. Your baby needs only one single dose of HIB vaccine. At his age one dose is able to cause a strong enough immune response that in itself (a single dose) is sufficient to give immunity. The immunity that he will acquire is not very different from that of other kids who would have had the recommended course. However, waiting till 1 year of age for the HIB vaccine would mean that till that age the child is vulnerable to HIB infection.
