Opening discussion on various issues relating to this vital, yet notoriously under-performing institution. There is only one logical way forward; acknowledge existing issues, address them, find tangible solutions and implement them! Note: The intention of this group is not to target individuals or groups to cause them harm or damage. Personal attacks or verbal abuse should not be used on this...

We are literally swimming in our own excreta, according to Bluepeace; a Maldivian environmental NGO. Male’ in its current state is a breeding ground for all sorts of ill health. The congested living condition, the fecal contaminated ground water, a questionable drinking water source, an environment laden with vectors of all sorts of deadly infectious diseases and now…..What more could...

The higlighting idea was a good one. →
Just a few thoughts: how many “high-lighter” strokes does it have? Would a simple leaflet have been sufficient? Maybe a single-sided A5 flyer would have been all that was required!

Saving money not necessarily saving water?!!
This was something I saw on TV Maldives today. The two anchors on the Maldivian talk show Hendhunu Hendhunaa (translated as early morning) were chatting about the tricks, they say, used by locals to minimise the water bill. Apparently, at least apparent to them not necessarily to myself, when the tap is opened just a teenee weenee bit and the water drips extremely slowly, the meter does’t...

Humour
This is reportedly a real sick note written by a parent to a school class teacher: Maryann was absent december 11-16, because she had a fever, sore throat, headache and upset stomach. Her sister was also sick, fever an sore throat, her brother had a low grade fever and ached all over. I wasn’t the best either, sore throat and fever. There must be something going around, her father even got hot...

Bottle at bed time
Jade: I heard that giving milk bottle during bedtimes can cause teeth problems in 1- one and half year olds.
Dr Niyaf: Hi Jade, bottle feeding is not a recommended practice. Bottle feeding at bedtime is, as you have rightly pointed out, one of the common causes of dental caries in toddlers. The milk (inherently sweet and sometimes extra sweetened) stays in the mouth for a long time; creating an ideal tooth decay environment. It is better to get the milk feed over with before bedtime and get the child to brush his teeth before going to bed.
