Dr Niyaf:Hi Razana, You are right. Your baby needs only one single dose of HIB vaccine. At his age one dose is able to cause a strong enough immune response that in itself (a single dose) is sufficient to give immunity. The immunity that he will acquire is not very different from that of other kids who would have had the recommended course. However, waiting till 1 year of age for the HIB vaccine would mean that till that age the child is vulnerable to HIB infection.
